
Stop the Shivers in the Changing Room
Nobody likes that bone-chilling feeling of stepping onto a freezing floor in a changing room. It’s miserable. Usually, these spaces are drafty and cold, and waiting for a standard heater to warm up the whole room takes forever. That’s why we use recessed infrared ceiling heaters. Instead of trying to warm up every cubic inch of air, these units beam heat straight down. It hits you instantly. You don’t have to wait for the air to circulate; you just feel the warmth the second you step under it. It turns a freezing zone into a cozy spot in a heartbeat. Why this works better than a vent Standard forced-air systems are kind of a waste. They spend a ton of energy heating the ceiling and the empty space in the middle of the room. Our IR units are different. We tuck them flush into the ceiling so they aren’t in the way, but they keep a clear line of sight to the person below. Think of it like a heat lamp for people. The waves just glide through the air without heating it up, and only release that warmth when they actually hit something—like your shoulders or a wooden bench. A few things to watch for during install These units are designed to drop right into standard ceiling grids, which makes things easy. But here is the catch: they pull a lot of power. When you first flip the switch, there’s a big surge of current. If you’re putting in a bank of ten heaters, make sure your breakers can handle that peak load. You don’t want to be the person who trips the power the moment the gym opens for the day. The trade-offs Short-wave heaters are incredibly fast, but they do have a visible glow. In a fancy, high-end locker room, that light can feel a bit too “industrial.” To fix that, we usually use reflectors to shape the beam and kill the glare. One last tip: keep an eye on your ceiling void. The higher the wattage, the more heat builds up behind the scenes. Give the housing plenty of breathing room. If it’s too tight, you risk scorching or warping your ceiling materials over time. And nobody wants that.
